Make a conscious effort to pay close attention to all of your senses. Listening to and watching and smelling and even feeling everything around you will not only help you be more aware, but will undoubtedly help you to appreciate all that surrounds you. It’s a skill that I’ve been working on, a skill that takes a while to master, but nonetheless one that has completely changed my everyday experiences. I try to really feel the wind on my face, listen to the sounds of the city, taste all of the flavors of the food I put into my mouth, smell the rain and the flowers and the grass. The awareness that develops is lovely- the present will never be so sweet.
